Hanging out in Lusaka
This weekend A (my colleague from the Pretoria office) and I ventured out on our own into downtown Lusaka. She did the driving and I did the navigating, and we headed for Cairo Road, which is the centre of... I am not sure what, but it has the railway station, post office etc, plus many many stationery shops, none of which sell plain paper notebooks. What they need here is a Muji, but if they had one it would look like it had landed from Mars. We also checked out the National Museum, which is (frankly) piss poor, though did have a splendid car park. We entered the building and stood by the table with tickets on it and a man sitting at it. We smiled at each other for a while and eventually he said 'have you come to visit'?
Back to work -- this morning I am presenting our project to the senior management team. It's a bit hard to work out who needs to know what, as people work very differently, so I am taking the approach of smiling a lot and trying not to make too many assumptions. However we have already worked out that - as anywhere - the office assistants are key to the success of any endeavour.
